Comfort awaits!

After years of wanting one, and after my last chair broke, I finally treated myself to a new Herman Miller Aeron. First introduced in 1994, it was in instant classic and was chosen for the permanent design collection of the Museum of Modern Art. Though the basic design is now well over a decade old, Herman Miller has continued to improve on perfection. They've updated the lumbar support to their new PostureFit system, they've added the polished base option, and most recently have partnered with Sit4Less.com to finally appease the masses for their request for a true black color (versus the various greys and neutrals previously available). With as much time as I spend at the computer, comfort and ergonomics were of great importance to me. I also tried out the Leap by Steelcase and the Liberty by Humanscale, as well as several others that were said to have been some of the best chairs out there, and while they were nice, for me, the best fit definitely was the Aeron.... plus I think it just looks cooler too! Should be waiting for me when I get back from Chicago next week.

Katherine and Bill- Engagements at Holden Beach!

Hi all!

I just returned from a lovely trip to beautiful Holden Beach, NC. I had the privilege of spending a few days with Katherine and Bill at Katherine's family's lovely beach house.

We had a leisurely drive back from the airport on Sunday night, and really enjoyed chatting and getting to know one another. When we arrived back at the house, Mrs. Garrison had prepared some delicious snacks for us, and we devoured those while planning out the long day ahead of us. Katherine had several awesome ideas for places we might shoot along the beach, and I was thrilled with her enthusiasm!

The next morning, we headed out early to enjoy the sweet sunrise light.

You would've never known it was windy and cold in this image... they definitely look hot!

We took a quick break to get warmed up and do a clothing change, and headed back out to a different area of the beach. Katherine had scoped out a general area, and once we got there, we found several awesome locations!

Later, after lunch, we grabbed a few casual images. Katherine really loves the shrimp boats dotted along the marina, so we searched one out and I just loved the color in them!

We also found this cool house. I loved the color here, too!

I love these two moments.

Our last session of the day was on the beach at sunset. We drove down to the very end of the beach, and the color was just amazing. Here are just a few of my favorites.

Katherine and Bill... good luck with the rest of the wedding planning! I can't wait to see you in August!

Beautiful Wedding on Harbour Island!

I recently had the privilege of covering the beautiful wedding and the surrounding festivities for a truly great couple, Amanda and Peter. Jill and I traveled to Harbour Island in the Bahamas for the wedding, and thanks to some unusual (but very welcome) flexibility in our schedules, we were able to spend a little extra time there to celebrate: simultaneously our 4-year anniversary and honeymoon we'd never taken, her birthday, and our first vacation in over 5 years. Not only was the couple amazing, but equally so was the Island and all it had to offer... at about one half mile wide and only accessible by boat, its charm and seclusion makes it an ideal retreat! Here are a few photos.

Pink sand beaches, often without another soul in sight as far as you could see in either direction!

With very few cars on the island at all, the preferred method of transportation is golf carts.

A Junkanoo trumpet player after the ceremony.

Though the island has no shortage of gulls or resident chickens that roam freely, patience paid off one morning as I got this shot of a Bahama Woodstar, Calliphlox evelynae, one of the Bahamas' only hummingbirds.

One of our staples while on the island... the "Beer of the Bahamas", the delicious and refreshing Kalik! (taken with my new underwater camera enclosure...fun!)

My beautiful wife on our last night. As we were not only celebrating our anniversary, but also Jill's birthday, I had to get her something special... and then I grabbed this shot to show off her new jewelry (duty free!)

A New Toy!

My new computer arrived today! I'm super excited to get it set up. We're a little swamped and short-staffed right now, so it might have to wait until next week, but it's sure to be awesome! It's the new 8-core MacPro with two 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Harpertown processors, 4 hard drives, 2 dvd drives, room for 32gb of ram, and a video card with 512mb of ram. Though my G5 is still very speedy and beefy, and will remain in place acting as a 11 terabyte server, it was time for an upgrade.

2 seconds...

I literally have about 2 seconds to throw this post up before my flight from Nassau heads to North Eleuthera, then a short boat ride to our destination: Coral Sands on Harbour Island...which is only one half mile wide! I'm looking forward to this week's wedding and to a few days of relaxation... and though technically I'm here for work, it's our first 'vacation' in 5 years!

Anyway, yesterday I had a blast covering the nuptial events for Jennifer and Ken. We were all over the place... we started out at Richmond Hill Inn, then over to the Biltmore for a bridal brunch, then a Basilica ceremony, and a Grove Park reception. It was a gorgeous wedding, planned by Gwenn Ford of Wedding Inspirations.

Here are just a couple of quick shots... sorry I didn't have time for more.

Shootification!

Hi All...

I want to share some very exciting news with you!

I've been working with
Four Seasons Films and Portal Films to create an educational DVD for photographers. I am often asked questions specifically relating to how I shoot and I thought that the best way to answer those questions would be to show you. This DVD showcases my covering an entire wedding, as well as coverage from their honeymoon in the Bahamas, with audio commentary throughout.

The DVD is now available at
www.shootification.com with a special introductory price... you can buy a physical version or a download that will also play on your iPhone! You can view a trailer there, as well as see reviews from other photographers.

I hope you enjoy watching the DVD as much as I did making it!

Very exciting!

Amber's Final Thoughts...

Well... goodness.

I can't believe I am sitting at home, on my own couch, with my wonderful husband (although I should DEFINITELY be sleeping... hmm, some things never change, eh?). The last few weeks have been a gloriously wonderful whirlwind, and I am thankful for every single minute of them!

Corey and I had the opportunity to see amazing cities, experience insanely wonderful hospitality, make new friends, strengthen old relationships, and learn and grow from all of these things, as well as from each other (well, at least I learned from Corey!). The tour was a smashing success, and I can't wait to start planning the West Coast version!

Huge thanks to our families (Jill, Nathan, Austen and Addison) for their wonderful love and support. We couldn't have done it without you!

Thanks also to our sponsors. We're so proud that you chose to support us in this endeavor! You guys are awesome!

Finally, thanks SO much to all of the amazing people we met along the way. You guys have changed our lives, and we hope that you all stay in touch. Giant hugs to every one of you.

Until the next time... all my love!

Thanks so much to Bob and Dawn!

While in the beautiful city of Chicago, we had the opportunity to crash at the lovely home of Bob and Dawn Davis... dear friends and amazing photographic couple! We didn't get to see much of them, as Bob was delayed in Florida, and Dawn was left holding down the home front... but we enjoyed their hospitality so much. It was so nice to stay in a real home, after all of the hotels we had been in and out of!

We did squeeze in a fun breakfast before we headed out of Chicago. It was so nice to sit and spend some quiet time with friends. I am ever jealous of Corey's return to hang out with Bob at a wedding in May! It's going to be way too fun!

Thanks SO much you guys... for your home and for breakfast. We seriously owe you.

hugs!!!!

Chicago... Final Moments.

We enjoyed Chicago's finest hamburgers on our last party night of the tour. Billy Goat Tavern (otherwise known... to those in the know... as the Goat Shack ;) ) was a awesome, laid back, local joint... perfect for our final night of hanging out. It was exactly what Corey and I needed.

Apparently, newcomers to this quaint place need to wear this ridiculous hat. Corey and I were pretty hot, sporting ours... but I'll just say that Kevin Swan's kiddo, Sol, was way hotter.

The many faces of Corey and I...

And our new buddy :)

It was very difficult to get a signal on my phone down in this pit... there are many images floating around of me praying to the iPhone god. Silliness.

More silliness...

The final group, trekking back across town.

Chicago.

Thanks to everyone who sent us pictures! We're ever appreciative.

Much love.

The Bean!

Ok... so maybe I am a little too excited about this... but this was one of the coolest, most intriguing things that I had seen in any city thus far! Corey photographed it from every angle... and I just love it!

(That's our awesome friend, Priscilla with us. She's got a seriously cool Chicagoan's accent!)

More in a minute!

Final Stop... Chicago!

Thanks so much to Kenny Kim for grabbing these fun shots of the last tour stop!

I love this shot that our new friend Sally sent us... so typically Corey...

I want to throw a quick shout out to a couple of our sponsors...

Photographer's Edit provided us with awesome lunches in every city! Chicago's lunch was particularly fun, because we snuck downstairs and had dinner in the restaurant. I was pretty stoked with my gourmet mac and cheese ;)

Apple should've been a sponsor :) You should've seen all the iPhones and MacBook Pros!

Pixel2Canvas was ever present in the back of our room. We loved having these awesome canvases!

A huge thanks to White Glove... Paul and Larry were wonderfully supportive throughout this tour. We couldn't have done any of this without them!

Here's a shot of Corey pulling out the final White Glove album winner... Just happened to be the gal who shot this image for us! Jen Stewart!

We are ever thankful to all of our sponsors for their support... We had the most amazing prizes to share with our new friends! Check out the header at the top of this blog to see a complete list of all of our wonderful sponsors!

We did have a final rock-out on RockBand! This might be the part of the tour that I miss the most ;)

And that concludes the official final tour stop!!!!

Final fun stuff in just a minute!
